My Favourite Local Shops for Interior Finds in Windhoek

Styling your home doesn’t have to mean importing everything from overseas or spending a fortune at high-end stores. Some of the best décor pieces I’ve found have come from small shops tucked away in Windhoek. Places that most people walk right past without realizing the gems inside. My favorite local shops for interior styling I’d say.

In this post, I’ll share my favorite local shops for interior finds, different stylish interior items in Windhoek, what I look for in each store, and how to shop with intention, even on a tight budget.

Why Shop Local?

When you shop local, you:

  • Support the Namibian economy
  • Avoid high delivery and import fees
  • Get to see, feel, and test items before buying
  • Discover unique items that no one else has
  • Explore the opportunity to create new trends with unique pieces

Also, some local shops and markets are open to negotiation, custom orders, or even payment plans, which helps if you’re decorating a space over time. Here are my favorite local shops for interior finds in no specific order.

1. China Town (Northern Industrial Area)

This is my go-to when I need:

  • Storage baskets
  • Artificial plants
  • Budget-friendly curtains
  • Rugs, mats, and plastic shelves

China Town has everything, but it can feel overwhelming. So I shop with a clear list and check prices between stalls. I’d recommend going in the morning when it’s quieter.

Styling tip: Look for wire baskets, and small stools, perfect for creating styled corners or zones in a small space. Within China Town, my favorite shop of all is Thomas@Home. But if your budget is tight, there is number of other shops within that would work for just as well.

2. HomeCorp (Maerua Mall & Prosperita)

If I had a little more budget, I’d visit HomeCorp for:

  • Modern-style cushions
  • Lamps and side tables
  • Bedding sets
  • Soft furnishings (blankets, throws)

They often have monthly specials or damaged stock sales, where you can score designer-looking pieces for a fraction of the price.

Styling tip: Their neutral-colored throws and faux plants add softness to any room, especially small apartments or studios.

3. Build It & Pupkewitz MegaBuild

These are hardware stores, but I’d still go there for:

  • Paint (sample tins!)
  • Wall brackets for open shelving
  • Light fixtures or bulbs
  • DIY supplies for upcycling old furniture

If I were doing a low-cost room makeover, I’d grab white or beige wall paint, a sanding sponge, and maybe basic handles to refresh an old cabinet.

Styling tip: Don’t overlook their seasonal sales, I once found beautiful mirrors and clocks for N$200.

4. Flea Markets & Roadside Vendors

This is where the soul of styling lives: handmade baskets, wooden stools, vintage tins, and metalwork. I’d head to:

  • Post Street Mall
  • Katutura Open Market
  • Single Quarters or roadside stands on Sam Nujoma Drive
  • Namibian Craft Centre (Old Breweries Market, Tal Street)

You’ll find:

  • Handmade woven trays
  • Wire art such as protea flower made from wire
  • Macramé plant holders
  • Secondhand furniture for flipping

Just at the Craft Center alone, you’ll find:

  • Locally made woven baskets and trays
  • Handcrafted pottery and ceramics
  • Carved wood pieces for tables or walls
  • Beaded artwork and natural fiber textiles
  • Beautiful Namibian photography prints
  • Kiddie’s toys perfect for display in the nursery.

Styling tip: Even if you don’t buy, take inspiration, styling is often about the idea as much as the item.

5. Pep Home & Mr Price Home

For soft, budget-friendly basics:

  • Scatter cushions and throw blankets
  • Curtains and lamp stands
  • Cutlery, dishes, and jars
  • Wall art and seasonal décor
  • Casual and colorful lounge furniture

With just N$400, I could walk out of Pep Home with: A pair of curtains, 2 scatter cushion covers, A candle or plant pot and faux flowers.

Styling tip: Look for neutral tones, they’re easier to layer and update seasonally.

Shopping Tips for Interior Styling on a Budget

Shopping for interior styling in Windhoek? Here’s a schedule to help you get started.

  1. Set a theme before leaving home (e.g., “earthy”, “bright”, “minimal”)
  2. Shop with a list, no impulse buys!
  3. Take photos of your space beforehand to guide choices
  4. Mix and match: one statement piece + budget-friendly fillers.
  5. Don’t buy everything at once, style grows with time

You don’t need a big budget or fancy catalog to style your space. You need a vision, a bit of intention, and the right shops to explore.

Windhoek is full of hidden gems, you just need to know where to look. So next time you feel stuck, hop in a taxi, take a friend, and go styling-hunting. Your next décor find might be waiting in the most unexpected corner.
